Not really, but there are fisherboats with a lot of illegal burmese workers on. Like in this case it's not direcly related to Koh Phangan.

Hi Luton, My guess is that the dead guy is not 'farang' ... if a body is for while dead in the salt water, they tend to look quite pale. Most likely a burmese fishermen, who got murdered in the night on a near shore fishing boat. But after all ... this is just my guess ... Simon

Dead body washed up on Haad Yoa this morning? any one hear any gossip? I was above haad Yoa, but could see down with binoculars. Looked like pale skin,... farang? Later confirmed that a body had got washed up but dont know if it was a farang or thai or burmess etc.. or if it was an acident or not. May have even washed over from Samui. anyone around haad yoa hear anything about this one?

Since my last posting here, I got quite a few email regarding the houses I share my Internet with. There are actually 9 houses for rent, that are near enough to connect to the IP Star system via my WLan. The rent of these houses is between 6.000 - 30.000, but most are 10.000 - 12.000 Baht.

Hi Alex, regarding your question about internet connection on the island. It depends really where you staying on the island. DSL: In some areas (Thong Sala, Baan Tai) you can get even DSL, but there are only a few rental houses that have DSL installed already, and for 3 month you sure don't want to do a 12 month contract to sign up for DSL. ... it's 700 Baht per month. GPRS: With your mobile phone you can go online with prepaid cards (expensive) .. or sign up for a long term contract (cheap ... 60 hr. for 200 Baht) ... but it's pretty slow ... Dial Up (Analog ... no ISDN on the island): 56K dial up, a few of our rental houses are equipped with a phone line. But again it's slow ... IP-Star, 2 way Sat. Connection: Expensive, but you can use it everywhere, 12 month min. contract... 256/128 Speed I have one at our home/office ... and sharing it via Wlan to the surrounding rental houses in Sri Thanu. I hope this helps ...

Hi! Me and my finance have been planning a trip to Koh Phangan and Koh Tao for next year (no idea about more specific time). We'll leave Finland as soon as we get the money together for few months trip. Anyway, I've searhed the net alot but I'd like to hear an honest opinion and information on the bungalow prices; Is it impossible to get a bungalow for two with twin bed, fan and toilet for max 300 BHT per night in Koh Phangan and Koh Tao (preferrably sunset side). I just want to make sure because alot of the prices seem to differ depending on the web site. Thanks alot in advance :)

Hello Helen Alcock, It's difficult to recommend one of them, because it dependes a lot on what you want to do on the island. Hadd Khon Tee Resort is great if you a looking for a quite beach holiday with economic prices. But you can't go there by motorbike, that means you have to wait always for a boat taxi (or take the 15 min. Jungle Walk) to get to town. Haad Son is really nice, rainbow bungalow I don't know about. And yes ... bring your laptop (I would never go anywhere without one), there a even a fe WiFi Sopts on the island now. Simon

Hi, In December 2003 I stayed at 'Haad Yaun Bungalows' the little thatch huts on stilts right on the beach! The Burmese family that ran the place were great and the food was awesome. I'm heading back there this coming December, does anyone know how to contact them? i would love get a booking. Also, how long is the bus/boat from Bangkok to Haad Rin? Any help would be appreciated. Hi Simon, I must say I have laughed at some of your descriptions on the site - in particular the burma visa run! Mr. Smiley's coffee might be worth a visit as well. Anyway, will be arriving on May 2nd and thinking of staying at the Khontee Resort, My phangon resort, haad son resort,or rainbow bungalows. Can you recommend the best?
