Anybody interested driving to Ranong and back, on Motorbikes for a visa trip, on the 14th this month. Only if the weather is good. It's about 300 km one way, we stay one night in Ranong. I did this a few times already, and I like it more than the minibusses.

If you don't have a bike, we can rent you one.

Call 09 2313318 for more information.

Hi Kim & Sarah,

Shiva is fine, most of the time around our house, playing with our dog. When you come back ? It's still raining, but not 24hr/day anymore ...

Simon

And to Superfreak:
I think David made his position clear a few posts before, and I also think Full Moon got horrible in the last years. Are you living near South Pole ? Say hello to the penguins ...

Hi David, nice comment down there...
Sometimes I ask myself why people like you don't take the opportunity to carry their frustration to a place which is worth to celebrate sadness. How about Greenland or the South Pole. The last location isn't actually that far from here! Hope you are NOT part of the island!

Apologies Simon/Phil. I do not know the Pirate Bar, I should never comment on things i don't know....

Of course I am not against any party activity, Its the way that Haad Rin has become and the behavior, as previously mentioned by Jim, by albeit a minority of people. The reputation of KPG has got, is just, well appalling. I was talking to a group of people recently who had been travelling South East Asia. I mentioned that in the late 80's early 90's my wife and I had paid a quid for a bungalow and the parties at Haad Rin were quite small, mainly centered around the Drop inn and involved travellers who passed round joints of good grass, dropped a few mushrooms and grooved away. No police, a few locals and a good vibe. They were completly shocked, what they told me was that it was just a mad rip off, people pissed, chaos everywhere , even a few fights. Lots of people being slipped a tab of something in drinks and later being robbed. The authorities even considering closing the parties down!! They spent a day or so there and would never go back - Indonesia - especially Lombok, Vietnam, Cambodia had places far better, cleaner and far more relaxing

Listen Simon, I will always love KPG, I am frightened to see and hear what has become of the Island.I know there folk like yourself who put a lot back into the place.

A very good friend of mine is going back to the Island in December. He has not been there since 1986. It will be interesting to see pictures and he is going to mail me his thoughts.

Never has the message in Alex Garlands book "The Beach" (written when he was on KPG) been more real.

Keep safe and once again much apologies

David

Hi Phil,
just ignore David, ... the Pirate Bar is a quite nice place and a nice alternative to big parties or haad rin.

David, are you in general against any kind of party activity ... or just what "Full Moon" became?

Simon

What new sound is this then?

Would that be the dull bang bang bang rave crap that thankfully is in decline? Just like the chemical pills that go with it. Get a life and take your boring music with you

Police is the same on KPG ... sometimes they check for helmets but I never saw them looking for seat belts. I just wear helmets on the mainland or if it's raining, most of the time it's too uncomfortable, and I don't drive fast.

Yep A reeeaaallll Fast Bike Then Leave the area quick maybe even the country. Insurance 1000% Needed. Considering the amount of regular wipeouts. Simon I was just saying in my experience The Police like to set up little checkpointsin Nathon at the end of the month when it's open season on Helmets and seat belts the 1000 baht fine helps to spliment their wages....;-) Mind you. I still don't wear one so what do I know!

Jim is right with his advice on helmets, but only on the mainland. On Samui helmets are rare too. But I don't understand how the licence or ID helps in case of an accident ... a good health insurence is more usefull then, and if you run over a someone local ... only a fast bike could help. But yes ... if you have a int. driving licence ... better use it

    22nd October 2005 - 12:43:05 PM
165 : Jim
MMMM Driving Licence. No It is true you will not need a licence to hire or drive a jeep or bike. Unless of course you have an accident or run someone over GOD FORBID A LOCAL. Or if you want to drive in Samui or the mainland and just supposing a Thai cop in a bad mood happens to stop you,
For not wearing your seat belt or for not weraing a helmet.
Then let me see you say oh I was told by the travel agent that I didn't need a licence None of the Thais have them. Well you go ahead and have fun and believe what you like.
Costs nothing to have id in your pocket then your ass is covered.

Stay Safe

Jim
