Hi Patsy,

No you don't need a licence here, most of the locals don't even have thai driving licence.

Vacinations ... not needed too ... no malaria here.

Insect Repellants you best buy in Thailand, european brands are too "soft" on the flying plague.

I have recently begun researching purchasing land in Thailand, in both KP and some other regions. I am now looking to find a lawfirm for the purpose of establishing a Thai business. Your post of Sept 25 mentions IBC-land and provides a weblink. Unfortunately the weblink is not working. Could you provide another means of contacting IBC either by phone # or agents direct email. This would be very helpful as the 30,000 fee you quote is less than 1/2 the cost of another law firm I recently contacted on Samui. Thanks!

I added a few more features to this site like a public forum, moderated by myself.

Also new, but yet not much content is the FAQ section.

I beleive that high season is mid-december through to mid january (xmas - new year) and another high season in August. It seems that Europeans wait until the end of their summer period to take a vacation abroad.

Genrally speaking its more busy these days, sand trucks roaring up vertical tracks into the mountains, macro diggers poping up all over the place.

But it is still a very nice place and nothing at all like its sister Island Samui (thank f**k).

In answer to Patsy have traveled to the island many times with my children and indeed will be living there from January. We have a small baby too! You will find all you need in the way of milk powder in the main town of Thong sala, bottles nappies and sundry items at Tesco lotus on Samui. a lot cheaper than in europe or the uk with a much greater selection. Some of the Thai brand baby milk is flavored, Vanilla, Strawberry etc, so check which one you are buying, but generally the quality is tops. The Thais have a great baby culture and you will find that having a baby with you is a fantastic asset and not a hindrance.

hope this helps anything else related I will gladly assist if I can.

Which beach did you stay? I was also in KPG for most of 1989-1993

I was staying more than 2 years in KPG late 80´s/early 90´s and I wonder how is "my place" now...? On this message board no one mentioned that beach where I used to stay, so I´m hoping that at least part of that beauty and quietness is still there... My question is, is there nowadays in KPG "big crowd" of "holidaymakers" on June/Julay? And is this "European summer" so called High- season-time in KPG?

Can you help?
We are bringing a 2 1/2 month old baby to Koh Phangan Dec/Jan and renting a house in Sri Thanu.Andrew Brady has rented the house .
Is there anywhere that we can buy baby food? My daughter-in-law is breast feeding at the moment but may have to give some bottles as a top up.
Also is there bedding sheets and towels etc in the house?
Also are there any English reading books?
Really looking forward to a restful stay on K phangan.
thanks
Pat

Hi Simon Thanks for that snipet of info. Is there an international school on Samui then? I can't find it on the net. Anyway I'm giving them a year at least off school it's debatable whether or not schools in Britain are worth the ride. To change the subject Anyone know what the conditions are like for kitesurfing year round? much wind? Are there many flyers on the island? I'm taking the house down by thongsala and was wondering what your oppinion was Simon on safety in the area regarding the property when making visa runs etc. I normaly reside north of Chaloklum but I can,t find a house big enough not with the 4 kids in tow I also wanted to know what the beach is like there I seem to remember that it loses the water there at some times of the year Cant remember when. stay safe

Sorry for all delayed emails, our office was offline the last week, since linghting struck into a phone post nearby and damaged our modem.

Hi Jim, I dont know many 'Farangs' with kids here. But they all seem so send thir children to the Samui school. I don't know if there is a market yet for a priv. run Internatonal School.

Antony, I guess the poll is a bit influenced by our frequent board users. And I suspect some of them are doing thier business online like me (but I voted for Over-Development, but my second choice would be 'slow internet').

Hi guys I am moving back mhome to the island with my kids next year. I was wondering if any of you firmly established members know if anyone else is living here longterm with western children. I'm interested because I'm wondering has anyone thought of setting up a school yet if they have or are considering it then get in touch with me

regards to all.

Jim

I was suprised to see slow internet the biggest problem on the island, I was there last year and they had plent of broaband cafes with 512kb/128kb conections pretty good for a tropical island, asking for anymore than this and you should reallty ask your self why your there fast interent access or a great time on a fanatstic island

I was afraid that, that was the case with the Green thing. The whole Phangan is set to be for eco-tourism is also a lot of hot air it would seem. I don't have much opinion on what Becki says as far as buying and selling of land, but agree with you completely on the impact of long term renters to short holiday makers. Everything I hear from the locals is less and less farang to go around and more and more big resorts. The place they are building on Had Yuan just kills me. I'm on Had Tien and the water situation has been really bad this year and they are putting in a swiming pool and the whole nine. Then they have to power the resort. With what? 17 generators running 24 hours a day. Maybe they pay to have the power lines run from over the moutain or they just plan on being finished when the power gets there in like 5 years. I feel so sorry for all the people staying at Big Blue and Barcelona who get to vacation at a tropical construction site.
I don't live there full time so I don't have a real sense of how things work, but I know they have community meetings from time to time. Like when they wanted the bars to close at 12:00. Are there no laws in place of what you can build and the type of impact that it will have on the rest of the island?

Hello Seville,

No, I don't see any group really caring about this subject ... 'Green Conservation Group' ... do you mean this Party Stuff from Phangan Explorer Team ? It's just a marketing gag.

when I finished my code on this forum script ... "Enviroment' will be one of the first Topics. But It will still take a while, because I want to include all old post in the new script.

Koh Phangan was changing so fast in the last years and the speed of development seems to be even higher now.

In the two property posts on Becki's Site, http://www.kohphangannews.org , I don't agree with his point of view on the Longterm Rentals, because I belive that visitors that stay long time and frequently have a much lower overall impact on the enviroment then these 1-2 week resort tourist and especially the 2-3 days party visitors. Besides this not all Property Agents overcharging (like us ;-)), for example a normal commision rate would be between 4-5%. And our lawyer ... http://www.ibc-land-house.com ... offers company registration for 30.000 Baht, no more. ... So I would prefer he gives us the 'black sheeps' name(s) and not talk bad about the whole business.

Simon

Hi Pat,

Just wanted to try and steer you in some kind of direction. I don't know about bridge, but I hope you and your family are planning on staying some place like Thong Nai Pan. There always seems to be an older crowd with families there. It also hosts some of the best parties/bars on the island. Thai people love playing games and you may be able to meet and teach some of them how to play. Do you know where your staying?
